The current global scenario reflects that the majority of EU livestock is located in a few member states (Spain, France, Germany, Poland, Denmark, Ireland, Italy and the Netherlands). The pig herd in Spain is estimated at 65 million pigs, distributed in 95,000 producing farms.
Furthermore, the
global emissions
of livestock sector are estimated at around 6.2 gigatonnes of CO₂ equivalent.
Thus, the estimate of the mitigation potential of a project like SinGEI is 33%, around 2.5 gigatons of CO₂-eq, regarding the global baseline scenario.
This calculation is based on assuming that the producers of a specific system, region and agroecological zone apply the practices of 10% of the producers (main or production leaders) with the lowest emissions intensity, keeping the production as a constant.

HOW DOES SINGEI PROJECT WORK?
The first step towards meeting the previous objectives in terms of reducing greenhouse gases and reactivating livestock farming in Spain begins with a Pilot Project in Campo de Cartagena in the Region of Murcia, focused on INTENSIVE WHITE LAYER SWINE FARMS.
